A Legacy Returns: The Jaffe Family Reignites Toledo’s Jewelry Heritage in Historic Perrysburg

PERRYSBURG, OH — A beloved name in Toledo’s jewelry world is stepping back into the spotlight. This December, I.M. Jaffe Jewelers will open its doors in downtown Perrysburg, marking the joyful return of a family legacy that has shaped the region’s fine jewelry landscape for nearly eight decades.

Husband-and-wife team Ivan and Michelle Jaffe are bringing the next chapter of their family story to life inside one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks — the former 1940 U.S. Post Office building on East Second Street. The couple is lovingly restoring the historic space, breathing new life into its original architecture while transforming it into a modern jewelry boutique and creative community hub.

For the Jaffes, this is more than a business venture — it’s a homecoming.

“We both grew up in Perrysburg, and this building has always had a quiet magic to it,” Michelle shared. “There’s original artwork still on the wall, protected under the Smithsonian’s care. We’re working to return the space to its original beauty.”

A Family Legacy Continues

The Jaffe name is woven deeply into Toledo’s jewelry history. Ivan’s father, Harold Jaffe, opened the family’s first store in 1946. Over the decades, the business moved throughout the region, serving generations of customers and earning a reputation for craftsmanship, trust, and timeless style.

When Harold Jaffe Jewelers closed its doors in early 2024 following the retirement of Ivan’s brother, Jeff, it appeared the final chapter had been written. But fate had another plan.

Jeff, now settled near family in Atlanta, shared his pride in seeing the legacy revived:
“We’re thrilled that Ivan and Michelle are continuing the work our father began in 1946. Their new location in the historic Perrysburg post office is going to be something truly special.”

Craftsmanship, Community & Co-Creation

I.M. Jaffe Jewelers will be far more than a boutique — it aims to be a space where jewelry becomes an experience.

Ivan, a certified gemologist since 1976, and Michelle, trained in jewelry design, are designing a studio where clients are invited into the creative process itself.

“Our clients are collaborators,” Michelle explained. “We’re planning hands-on sessions — designing pieces together, carving wax models, experimenting with stamping and engraving. It’s jewelry you don’t just wear; it’s jewelry you help create.”

Their vision is rooted in both sustainability and community impact. Every diamond, gemstone, and metal will be chosen with environmental and ethical responsibility in mind. The boutique will also host workshops, community gatherings, educational events, and creative sessions open to locals of all ages.

“We want this to be a place where people come together,” Ivan said. “A space that inspires — and gives back.”

Restoring the 1940 post office building is an ambitious, multi-year labor of love. The Jaffes are committed to honoring its historic character while shaping it into a vibrant, modern destination where heritage and innovation blend seamlessly.

And while the renovation unfolds, the heart of the project — the Jaffes’ dedication to artistry, integrity, and community — is already firmly in place.

With the December opening of I.M. Jaffe Jewelers, Perrysburg isn’t just welcoming a new boutique.
It’s celebrating the revival of a cherished Toledo legacy — one built on family, craftsmanship, and the belief that jewelry, like history, is most meaningful when shared.
